Dupe and The Bell Ringers Concert 2012

A special concert to raise money for South East London Breast Cancer Trust, it was a rock concert with a difference. DUPE are a four piece band who have been playing together for nearly 30 years and on 6th October 2012, returned to the unusual venue of St Martin-of-Tours church in Chelsfield for a diverse evening of music.

In 2008, the band performed in the church, the evening culminating in a song where the bell-ringers performed with the band. Four years later, the plan was slightly more ambitious.

DUPE was joined in the first half by a string quartet/quintet featuring members of Bromley Symphony Orchestra performing a short acoustic set with guest vocals. After a brief interval the band performed a full electric set, playing music from the 60s and 70s – artists like the Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd, Genesis, 10cc, Deep Purple, ELO etc. Local operatic soprano, Melanie Mehta  joined the band for one song and the evening ended with a piece of music written by keyboard player Dave Griffiths featuring the band, electric cello and all eight bell-ringers ringing the church bells in the tower.

The music will be tuneful stuff and the selection of songs will take advantage of the magnificent acoustic of this delightful 11th Century church.

A total of £1,320.00 was raised.
