Blackheath Rugby Club Ladies Day 2013

On Good Friday Blackheath Rugby Club held its 3rd Ladies Day at the Rectory Field with 50% of the proceeds going to our charity. Simon Legg and Richard Windsor both first XV players did a sterling job with the organisation of this event.

The organisers had set up a very large marquee with pink carpet on the floor. The food was laid out along the length of the marquee and there was a very large chocolate fountain table along the side next to the bar, which was set up in the corner with huge freezers keeping the drinks cold!!!!!

The day started cold but once all the ladies arrived in their refinery – and very high heeled shoes -they quickly started on the cava and pimms which ran freely. The bitter cold weather didn’t seem to matter once they had all had a few drinks. The drinks were served by bare chested waiters wearing a bow tie round their neck – much to the delight of the ladies present – these waiters are all players who were injured or not picked to play that day. There was music before and after the match so there was also a lot of dancing going on. The food was quickly eaten as the ladies need to have something inside them to soak up the alcohol!!!!! We all left the marquee at 3pm to watch the match although the result was disappointing as Blackheath lost, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the ladies. The Trustees were invited into the changing room after the match to have our photo taken with the team. The team wore pink shirts for the occasion and these were auctioned off after the match. They raised an amazing amount of money.

Sam, Jane, Pat and Christine representing SELBCT were able to sell wrist bands and also bucket shake. We sold 463 wrist bands and with the extra donations we took home £728.05 with some of the donations being gift aided. We await the final figures from Simon in due course when all the accounts for the day are settled.

We would like to sincerely thank Blackheath Rugby Club for choosing our charity for their 3rd Ladies Day and we wish them well in their last 4 matches of the season.
